The Parlor Salon Rebrand

about

One day, I received a message from a friend’s aunt. She owns a salon in the small town where I have lived all my life. She heard that I was doing graphic design and wanted to see if I could come up with a new logo for her business. Her time frame was not immediate because she also wanted to ask about having me design her business cards too, and she still had quite a few left. I came up with a price that I thought would be reasonable. Once she gave an ok on the quote, I set up a meeting to speak with her in person and get a look at the place. The first thing I noticed was how homey, comfortable, but elegant the front was. As soon as I walked in, there was a purple sofa, grey walls, and a huge painting of a peacock hanging on the wall. Investigating more, I noticed that the entire place had peacock print and feathers, along with a little bit of zebra print. The client told me that the peacock meant something to her and the business. She shared a story of how she wanted her customers to feel when they walk out of the door after having one of her styles done. “I want them to feel like they are a peacock with its feathers fanned out strutting their stuff with their chest out.”

She incorporated a peacock feather previously and wanted to continue with the feather but with a different look than before. I made sketches and then rendered a few of them in Illustrator. Once she picked out her favorite, I added several colors to mimic the peacock that she had hanging on the wall in her salon. At first, I had a serif typeface for all the type, but we decided to highlight the stylist name in a script font that was legible yet coordinated well with the name of the company. Once the small changes were made, I downloaded the appropriate files on a drive for her so she could have it printed.
